We pride ourselves on maintaining a continuous and quality supply of electricity to consumers and protecting the business and assets through excellent health, safety and environmental procedures and operations. We also contribute to disaster recovery preparedness as part of the district and regional councils’ reviews of Civil Defence Emergency Plans.

We have a 10-year asset management plan which we review annually to ensure progressive development of our network and attainment of best practice operation. This plan identifies the methodology used for ensuring appropriate maintenance is undertaken and capital investment is prioritised to meet growth.

An important input into the asset management plan are the regular surveys undertaken of various customer segments in order to measure the emphasis they place on the trade-off between price and quality of supply. Recent surveys have identified that overall three quarters of customers are happy with the availability of continuous power supply. Survey results are used to specifically identify and validate activities or projects that will reduce the duration or frequency of system outages.

Individual partnering solutions to meet the total energy needs of customers are being developed for large users. The health and rural sectors are two areas where these partnership arrangements are being sought whereby Horizon Energy can invest in network and generation infrastructure and asset management.

Horizon Energy is the provider of the network that the Electricity Retailers use to distribute the energy that they sell to customers in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Horizon makes the network available to all Retailers and has a direct relationship with them for this service. The charges that apply for this service are part of the costs that an end use customer will pay for their electricity. Horizon Energy is required by legislation to ensure that its prices for this service are reducing each year in real terms.
